I went to Blue Springs State Park to see the Manatees.  The official count is around 300 of them spending the winter there.  These two cormorants caught my eye as they were sitting on this downed tree.  These are among my favorite birds and observing them swimming in the crystal clear spring water is a real treat.  I highly recommend you get to Blue Springs if at all possible, the manatees are very active and easily observable from a number of platforms.  As I said, the water is clear making this one of the best places I know to see them.

  1. I like the cormorants!

Thanks for the tip on the manatees. Saw some near Fort Myers and was amazed by their size.

  2. There were probably around 50 cormorants perched on various structures along the spring run to the St John's river. The temperature was in the low 30's and most of them didn't seem to want to get wet. If you have ever gone swimming in a sporing it's hard to imagine that the manatees are there because it's warm water compared to the rivers and intracoastal. Is there a specific spot in the Ft Myer's area where they congregate?Ron
